What a winner (by MagyarRose) |
Haven't seen a crime thriller this good in ages, with such fast moving pace but excellent character development at the same time. The screenplay is exciting and observant of human psychology. The acting is superb, and I guess the directing had a lot going for it too. Like the perfect storm, this just all came together and did a job of stirring me up good. The tension built up from the start with Addison and what we learn about him and his coach. The relationship between the sheriff and his daughter, and the how the men treated her, and her stoic dealing with it...wow, I could not have <more> |
Outstanding! (by thompsign) |
You know that feeling you get when you put on a movie and you have a hunch that it's going to be a great film based on the characters and trailers? well this is the perfect movie for that! Gets you engaged from the START. about 29 minutes in I thought to myself "I love this, everything that's going on is ridiculously awesome" I even left something similar as my Facebook status. I don't know if this is a remake or what because I noticed a few other movies with the same title, either way this is one of my favorite films that I seen in a while. Highly recommend it to people <more> |
Loved it! mindless action romp meets philosophy of wrecklessness (by ant-stewart) |
great film to pass an evening if you like eric bana, evil people running around out of control and killing anyone in their path, stories that stand out from trite cliché platitude and stuff like that.the acting was Top Notch, all the actors led their moment of the film adequately or better, i was charmed, even though at some times they were borderline insane given the narrative, in a convinced and strange kind of way, i thought it was quizzical and nice. i figure they very nicely portrayed your typical crazy people who aren't thinking ahead properly, the police were characterful and fun, <more> |
very very good. one of the best of this year 2012 (by rightwingisevil) |
i like this movie a lot. wonderfully written screenplay with very good directing and very very good casting. the whole movie was a textbook-like production. there were several threads that gradually woven together, sister-brother complicated relationship, prodigal son to his parents, local police chief to his daughter, aging old couple's love, plus a a deadly blizzard in the northern border town. beautifully shot, pressure building up, accidental romance. the snow mobile chasing scene was like a 007 identical one, very very well shot. the storyline was so well crafted that led all the <more> |
A Snowy Serving of Excellent and Well Collaborated Drama (by tequila101) |
I have watched this film twice already this year and I must say that it never fails to disappoint. A Snow climax which sets in isolation and peril, dark and gloomy cinematography and an all-round cast including Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde and Charlie Hunnam who deliver tenacious and overall spectacular performances which engage and lure the audience into a fine little thriller which gives all the good anyone is expecting in a film like this.I just thought that the cast for this film was a good choose because I never expected to see Eric Bana from films such as "Chopper" and <more> |
Taught and expertly-made thriller (by Leofwine_draca) |
Every now and then a little thriller comes along that absolutely blows your socks off and leaves you feeling wowed by the experience. DEADFALL is such a film; I haven't had such a good time with a thriller since HEADHUNTERS, and while it's not quite of the same calibre, it's certainly a great little movie that deserves far more attention than it has.I really ask two things and two things alone of thrillers: that they have plenty of suspense and tension, and that the action sequences are decent. DEADFALL fulfils both criteria, offering an unusual plot that keeps the suspense <more> |
An All around well crafted crime thriller (by Tcarts76) |
"Deadfall," is the story of a brother and sister, Addison Eric Bana and Liza Olivia Wilde ,that decide to split up and go their separate ways after a botched robbery and car accident. Through a chance meeting and a twist of fate, the brother and sister are again reunited on Thansgiving day, one that turns out to be anything but a great Holiday for all parties the siblings, a young police woman, a husband and wife, and Liza's new love interest, a former Olympic medalist boxer that has just got out of prison. The Good: The acting all around was solid. Eric Bana pulls this one <more> |
Well written Bana boom (by ben_robertson) |
This movie I saw at the New Hampshire Film Festival in Portsmouth, NH and it was my favorite of the weekend. The writing was excellent and Bana gave yet another great performance as a violent man who was crazy and funny and charming and human. Writer Zach Dean combined the Western, crime, thriller, sports and family genres to tell a story about three dysfunctional families that are brought together by the trauma of childhood abuse. I knew where the story was going and yet in the end Dean was able to surprise me with how he got there. He did a masterful job pulling together his threads in a <more> |
'It's alright, little sis - It's a good sign when you feel a little bad.' (by gradyharp) |
Perhaps the reason this film is not meeting with a better reception has to do with our current situation of senseless killings that are happening throughout the nation. Had t been placed in the theaters at a different time it might have been better appreciated. The script by Zach Dean is tight and multifaceted in meanings, the direction by Stefan Ruzowitzky keeps us in suspense until the final frame, and the cast of actors is unusually fine. It is a fine little film and deserves more attention. The title DEADFALL is translated by the dictionary as 'A trap for large animals in which a heavy <more> |
